Assessment report Chia seed, applicant GCP Import & Export S.R.L.
A report on the assessment of chia seed by the company GCP Import & Export S.R.L. for substantial equivalence to chia seed, which has already been authorised in the European Union.
The chia seed can be sold as a separate product, or can be used as an ingredient in certain types of food products.
Based on this positive assessment report, the applicant can inform the European Commission about the marketing of chia seed, in accordance with article 5 of European regulation 258/97.
The Novel Foods Unit sent this assessment report to the Minister of Health, Welfare and Sport on 12 January 2016.
