Assessment report Chia seeds, applicant AndesHarvest, Santiago, Chili
A report on the assessment of chia seeds (seeds of the plant Salvia hispanica) by the company AndesHarvest te Santiago, Chili for substantial equivalence to chia seeds which are already authorised for use in the European Union.
The chia seeds can be sold as a separate product, or can be used as an ingredient in certain types of food products.
Based on the positive opinion in the rapport, the applicant may notify the European Commission of the placing on the market of chia seed, according with article 5 of European Regulation 258/97. The chia seed may be sold as such, or as an ingredient in certain types of foods.
The Novel Foods Unit (BNV) sent this assessment report to the Minister of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS) on 3 April 2015.
