Register for internet trade in veterinary medicinal products

Please find here a list of registered retailers that are located in the Netherlands and are entitled to offer veterinary medicinal products online (in accordance with Article 104 of the Veterinary Medicinal Products Regulation), including the website addresses of those retailers.

The Register for internet trade in veterinary medicinal products is updated once a month, if updates are required.

Companies that are included in the Register for internet trade in veterinary medicinal products must display the Logo for internet trade in veterinary medicinal products with veterinary medicinal products they sell online.

This logo only relates to:

Only veterinary medicinal products of the VRIJ category may be sold via a web shop. Veterinary medicinal products of the URA category may only be sold subject to veterinary prescription.

Under 'categorie diergeneesmiddelen' the highest legal status of supply of veterinary medicines is shown in which a company is legally allowed to trade via the internet.
 

URA: Stands for veterinary medicines that are dispensed to animal keepers by a veterinarian, pharmacist or license holder on veterinary prescription (prescription) from the veterinarian.

At the moment that 'URA' is listed in the Register, a company may offer veterinary medicinal products of the URA category on prescription. The company is also allowed to offer veterinary medicines of the category ‘VRIJ’ without a prescription.

Note: The URA category only applies to delivery within the Netherlands. Websites with a foreign domain name may therefore only deliver veterinary medicinal products of the category ‘VRIJ’ outside the Netherlands, even if URA is listed in the Register.
 

VRIJ: These are veterinary medicines available without a veterinary prescription (prescription). When 'VRIJ' is stated in the Register, a company may only offer veterinary medicines of the category ‘VRIJ’. This is also allowed for veterinary medicines intended for food-producing  animals of the category ‘VRIJ’.

VRIJ - alleen gezelschapsdieren - DVM: The ‘VRIJ – alleen gezelschapsdieren – DVM’ category is for Veterinarians (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine) only. When ‘VRIJ – alleen gezelschapsdieren – DVM’ is stated in the Register, a veterinarian may only offer non-prescription veterinary medicines (of the category VRIJ) which are intended for pet animals/non-food-producing animals only. This rule applies for animals to be treated that do not fall under his medical care. In addition, the veterinarian may offer non-prescription veterinary medicinal products intended for food-producing animals and veterinary medicinal products subject to prescription of the URA category via internet trade via internet trade. However, this is only allowed for those animals that do fall under the veterinarian’s medical care.

VRIJ – alleen gezelschapsdieren (only pet animals)
When 'VRIJ – alleen gezelschapsdieren' is stated in the Register, a company may only offer veterinary medicines of the category ‘VRIJ’ that are intended for companion animals/non-food-producing animals. The company is therefore not allowed to offer veterinary medicines intended for food-producing animals.
 

VRIJ - DVM: The ‘VRIJ - DVM’ category is for Veterinarians (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine) only. When as ‘VRIJ - DVM’ is stated in the Register, a veterinarian may only offer non-prescription veterinary medicines (of the category VRIJ). This rule applies for animals to be treated that do not fall under his medical care. In addition, the veterinarian may offer veterinary medicinal products subject to prescription of the URA category via internet trade. However, this is only allowed for those animals that do fall under the veterinarian’s medical care.

The information about a veterinary medicinal product must always be in accordance with the official package leaflet texts that are available in the Veterinary Medicines Information Bank and must comply with the statutory requirements on the advertising of veterinary medicinal products.
